The basics that precede playing the violin

In this article, we will talk about the basic steps that every beginner should learn before playing the violin.

Therefore, we want this article to be dedicated to the stage preceding holding the violin

Learn the notes

In the beginning, the learner must master reading the musical note, as it is the gateway to learning to play all other musical instruments, and the musical note is similar to a language. We see languages in their diversity, and musical notes are also diverse

If languages express themselves through letters, then the effect of the musical note spreads through the application of musical signs to the musical scale with its degrees (Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Si, Do). Therefore, when these signs come together, relationships are formed between them that we can call Musical sentences, and the combination of these sentences forms for us musical pieces similar to what we call texts in languages

Learning the note requires high accuracy in hearing and an eye that reads the note very quickly, and this only comes with continuous training, which is either self-paced, competitive, or cooperative

Violin shapes

The shape of the musical instrument may vary depending on the place in which it was manufactured, as we find diversity in its manufacture, in terms of size and quality of wood, which leads to a large difference in the quality of the melodies that come from that instrument, and as we mentioned, the violin belongs to the strings within a family consisting of four instruments (the violin ,viola, cello, contrabass), as this instrument is similar in appearance but differs in size and length, and this leads to a difference in the degrees of sound it produces, as the sound of a small-sized instrument is quieter and more melodic than a large-sized instrument

The violin, like all other string quartet instruments, consists of a resonant sound box, an arm, four strings, and a bow. The original body of the instrument consists of (79) pieces, which the maker puts together with great precision. The sound box consists of the “harmonic table” and the back of the box. It has wooden edges surrounding it, and the face of the box (table) is made of muskee wood, and the back is made of a light type of hard wood, and there is a slight bend on the side of the instrument in the shape of the letter (C) to allow the bow to pass over the strings

The arm is made of light and durable wood and ends with a carved ornament in the form of a spiral. The four strings are stretched on its triangular plate. The strings are adjusted and tightened using wooden tension keys. The strings pass through a horse made of hollow-core wood that allows regular resonance vibrations. It also regulates the position of the strings  on a plate of ebony wood attached to the upper end of the arm. The bow of the instrument must be light in weight (50-60 grams) and its length should be (75) cm. The bow must be made of strong wood, and the hair strung on it must be made of horse hair

There is another piece that helps in stabilizing the violin in a regular manner, which is a piece of wood or a pillow that makes it easier for the player to hold the violin for a longer period without feeling tired

So one of the basics of playing the violin is knowing how to read the musical notes and the shape of the instrument, and here we come to mention the complete parts of the violin, which are the chest, the upper rib, the lower rib, the middle rib, the waist, the vocal window (right side), and the vocal window (left side). ), comb, horse, texture, neck, nose, Malawi, Malawi house, forelock, forehead, arch, spiral
