The king of Al Qudud Al Halabiya and the legend of the Arabic Singing

A Syrian singer who is considered one of the most famous singers in Syria and The Arab World as an artist and a singer. Also, he is considered one of the most famous figures of the Eastern Music and a symbol of Arabic and Syrian music. He could record worldwide fame across continents such as Europe, Asia, and America. In addition, he was the first Arabian singer who entered Guinness.

He is Sabah Al Deen Abo Quas and he is known as '' Sabah Fakhri '' due to the late Syrian poet and journalist '' Fakhri Al Baroudi'' who takes care of his talent.

He was born in Aleppo in 1933 and known by his nice voice since his childhood. He studied at Quranic School in Aleppo and there he learned the main principles of Arabic Language, rhetoric science and Tajweed. Then, after junior secondary school, he went to two specialized institutes in Damascus and Aleppo, where he learned Muwashshahs, rhythms, and playing the oud.   

He started singing at the Syrian station in 1948 and in the same year, Fakhri's first and most important shows were performed at the presidential palace in Damascus.

Fakhri is distinguished by his exceptional strong voice and by his perfect performance to Maqams and their tunes. Also, he was known by his distinguished performance on stage, his tuneful voice and his singing of the original music type. He has a huge number of fans across the world and he is pointed to as an excellent performer of the original Arabic music.

He has attained a lot of achievements such as:

1-Memorizing the Holy Quran and collections of poems for Arab poets, he worked to revive the Arab music heritage so he found '' Music Sultans'' Band. He recorded heritage songs and others that were retuned by the teachers who taught him.

2-He worked as the Artists Captain in Syria more than once and he was granted a big number of prizes and appreciation license in Syria, the Arab World and America.

3- Sabah worked for about 50 years in amending and spreading the traditional forms of the Arab Music that were vanishing such as:

Muwashshahs and Al Qudud Al Halabiya.

4- He produced 5 big music CDs and 20 audio cassettes each about one hour.

In addition to a lot, he performed singing parties in many countries around the world, and he sang in:

 (Nobel for Peace) Hall in Sweden

(Beethoven) Hall in Bonn/ Germany

(Conferences Palace) Hall in Paris

Also, he had an artistic cultural tour in Britain and many others.

Fakhri had entered Guinness after singing on the stage for about 10 continued hours without taking a break during a ceremony in Caracas/ Venezuela in 1968 and he was mentioned in Encarta as a symbol of the original Arab singing.

During his artistic journey, Sabah Fakhri showed a big number of works nearly about 347 songs. Also, he sang ballad, poetry and Muwashshahs.

Thus, he sang 87 Muwashshahs that were composed by Syrian and Egyptian maestros.

The most famous of his songs are:

Kamrat Al Hubb, Quddaka El Mayyas, Ebatli Jawab, Malek Ya Helweh, Qol Lel Maliha, Ya Hadi Al Aees, Ya Teira Tiri, Foug Elna Khel, Ya Mal El Sham, Muwashshahs, Ya Shadi Al alhan, Ah Ya Helu.

Also, he had television and cinema participations such as films:

''The Big Valley'' and ''The Tramps'', in addition to a TV program entitled: " The Most Beautiful Names of Allah''.

One of his speeches:

'' I want all people to know that Sabah Fakhri isn’t only a beautiful voice, but also he studied and memorized the Arab Heritage''.

Sabah Fakhri died in 2021 with about 88 years old after a rich artistic journey lasted for more than half a century during which he ascended the throne of the Arabic heritage of singing leaving the original Arabic art with a big legacy.
