Boldness and Simplicity

''The Dancers'' is a wonderful art picture which was painted by the French artist Henri Matisse in 1909. It is considered one of the most famous artworks in the 20th century. The picture represents a group of dancers who are dancing within a circle and it is distinguished by its bright and bold colors that reflect vividness and motion of that dancing.

Henri Matisse is considered one of the most prominent artists during the artistic period which was known as abstraction. Also, Henri is considered one of the artists who were seeking for abstracting art of realistic details. In addition, he was focusing on color, shape and motion. ''The Dancers'' picture is distinguished by Henri's unique style in abstraction since he showed the dancers in an abstract and simple way and he used the bright colors in a way that reflects vividness and motion.

''The Dancers'' was painted on a big piece of cloth by using a big brush in order to add motion and vividness to the general form of the picture. Although ''The Dancers'' appears in an abstract way but it expresses the rhythmic movement and the harmony that dancing is known by.

In the picture, we can see five female characters who are dancing a round dance without any extra details. It is only the process of taking the sounds of the music and the bodies of the dancers and dimming them, then, the bending of the bodies will appear dynamically.

When you look at the picture, you will feel as if it was a realistic one, as if we feel the vibrations and we are ready to join the dancers. It is not by chance that the idea of the round dance was so successful to the degree that it was repeated a lot by the artist. Also, it was taken and explained by the choreographers.

Matisse depicts reality in his own way, thus, dancers don’t have the ideal shape and it seems that they were painted from another look, but at the same time, their shapes are attractive and beautiful. This was a renewal in the picture since most people have a particular image of the ideal bodies but Matisse has broken the rule. So, women's bodies are not completely proportional with simple hairstyles and the faces were not painted.

The picture id displayed permanently in the most famous museums such as The Museum of Modern Art in New York. Also, the picture could be found in other museums such as ''Musee d' Orsay'' in Paris, The Museum of Modern Art in Sydney (Australia) and The Tate National Museum in London.
